I look forward to NaNoWriMo with a fervor that most people reserve for their favorite holidays. I’ve participated ever since I stumbled upon NaNo Godfather Chris Baty’s No Plot No Problem many years ago.
For those not familiar, during the month of November people across the world pledge to write 50,000 new words in 30 days. 50K is a good chunk of words (The Catcher in the Rye is about this much) and crossing the line is a good feeling.
For some people, it’s the only time during the year they bother to sit down and write. For me, it’ll be a push to get more stories off of the To Do List and on to the I’m Done List.
This year, in a break from my usual pants-tastic NaNo craziness, I have actually plotted out, Chapter by Chapter, two novellas. The hope is (please please please!) to have two finished drafts at the end of the month. Instead of what I normally do, which is get about a 1/3 of the way into a story and still hit 50K.
